Artix began hosting in-game celebrity events before SOEs FreeRealms and
Zyngas FarmVille existed; first celebrity event in MMO AdventureQuest Worlds
drew over 1 million guests
Land O'Lakes, FL - May 20, 2011 - Artix Entertainment, the indie game
development studio that delivers download-free browser-based RPGs to 130 million
users, said today their early creation of celebrity in-game events paved the way
for Lady Gaga to enter Zyngas FarmVille. Artix Entertainment has been hosting
in-game events featuring celebrities since March 13th, 2009 when they partnered
with Voltaire for the games very first of several Friday the 13th events.
Artixs first event drew a global audience of over one million. This was before
SOEs FreeRealms and Zyngas FarmVille were released.
Artix Entertainment has partnered with numerous celebrities for six more events
since 2009. AEs AdventureQuest Worlds has hosted voice actor George Lowe,
musical duo Paul & Storm with a cameo by singer/songwriter Jonathan Coulton,
musician Voltaire, and musical band One Eyed Doll.
Other than FarmVille, games that followed in AEs footsteps and began hosting
celebrities for in-game events are SOEs FreeRealms and KingsIsles Wizard101.
FreeRealms hosted a live in-game and in-person concert of The Dares in June of
2009. Wizard101 featured a quest line with singer/actress Selena Gomez in
September of 2010, and this month singer/musician Nick Jonas was a mystery
character who composed a soundtrack for the online game.
