There has been a HUGE sweeping set of changes during the last Chaos round.
Old strats might not work so well, new ones are ripe for figuring out. This is a
whole new ball game now and the perfect time to for you join in, since the
playing field will be completely level. There are too many changes to list, so
here are a few of the bigger changes:
- Instead of figuring out which combination of refineries and upgrades you
need to build in order unlock a unit, you can now purchase plans for any
unit directly, making army building MUCH easier for new players and
introducing a new strategic twist. You have to choose wisely, since each
plan adds permanent rep under the new rep system. Unit plan prices range
from ultra-cheap to mega-expansive, so if you plan ahead and invest in the
right high level plans (you can make partial payments) you will be well
rewarded when you storm the battlefield in full force with high tech few can
match.
- Your base rep is now based primarily on your capacity instead of your
actual current strength. This means that a base that has the ability to
create a monster army will still have high rep. This great new change gets
rid of the old scrap-and-drop problem where mega-bases would purposely lower
their rep by scrapping their army to build a perfect attack army and
demolish a smaller base. A lot of work has gone into making sure fights are
fair and the best strategic warrior wins.
- Attacking higher rep, more powerful bases will earn you a score bonus
for strategic attack, and attacking lower rep weaker bases will give a score
penalty. This way people are encouraged to attack up and low rep incoming
players have more of a chance to get into the flow.
- All brand new Cadet players are automatically assigned to one of two
training clans. They can learn the ropes there before going out to either
try solo or join one of the established clans. We want everyone to get the
help they need to understand some of the finer points of the game because
the more good players we have, the more competitive and the more fun the
game will be for all.
There have been many more small tweeks and adjustments after a lengthy Chaos
round of testing to make the game way more balanced, fun and challenging at all
levels. In short, dust off your copy of Art of War and jump in! War, strategy,
outthinking, staying a step ahead, reacting and counterattacking, punishing and
dominating... if you know anything about that, now is your time for Minewars.
