FAIRFAX, VA - June 22, 2004 - Mythic Entertainment, developer and publisher
of the critically acclaimed massively multiplayer online role-playing game,
"Dark Age of Camelot(R)," today announced that "Dark Age of
Camelot: New Frontiers" has gone live. A free downloadable expansion for
all current subscribers, "New Frontiers" reinvents the game's Realm
versus Realm (RvR) combat system, Mythic's own unique take on player vs. player
or PvP play. "New Frontiers" makes heroic battles accessible to
subscribers of all levels and abilities, deepens the tactical options and
strategies of battle, diversifies styles of warfare and establishes a new and
expanded rewards system for Realm versus Realm combat.
"Dark Age of Camelot's" RvR system was recognized as a unique
addition to the MMORPG genre by players and reviewers alike upon the game's
original release in October 2001. Mythic continues to expand this unique system
as part of its ongoing efforts to offer new challenges to the game's
subscribers. During RvR combat, player characters from the game's three
different Realms engage in life and death struggles across numerous
battlegrounds, keeps, and throughout expansive frontier areas.
In developing "New Frontiers," Mythic has taken the unusual step of
focusing almost all of its resources on enhancing "Dark Age of
Camelot's" RvR system as a free expansion instead of committing most
resources to retail expansion development. By creating an expansion that
increases the accessibility and broadens the appeal of RvR beyond its original
design, Mythic continues to show its commitment to the game and its growing base
of worldwide subscribers. As part of the foundation of the design of "New
Frontiers," Mythic invited comments and feedback from the people that know
the game best: the players of "Dark Age of Camelot" themselves.
Frequent communication of design philosophy, goals, special features, and a long
Open Beta program allowed Mythic to work closely with the community to create
"New Frontiers."
"We felt it was time to update our successful RvR system," said
Matt Firor, Vice President of Development and Executive Producer at Mythic
Entertainment. "We used almost two-and-a-half years of our players' RvR
experience and paid close attention to feedback from the community to design an
even more exciting, challenging and fun RvR system for everyone. This is above
and beyond a typical free download. We're proud to offer it to the players as
part of their regular subscription fee."

About "Dark Age of Camelot: New Frontiers"
"New Frontiers," the free downloadable expansion to "Dark Age
of Camelot," restructures the award-winning massively multiplayer online
role-playing game's Realm vs. Realm combat system, where players from the game's
three different Realms vie for supremacy by sieging keeps, invading enemy lands,
and fighting one another in pitched battles. "New Frontiers" makes it
easier to locate battles, adds more tactics and diversity to combat, and
integrates more concrete bonuses and abilities as rewards for RvR combat. The
design and testing process of "New Frontiers" was open to comment from
the "Dark Age of Camelot" community, and the final version reflects
fans' input.
"New Frontiers" overhauls the geography of the Realm frontiers and
introduces newly designed keeps enabling significant strategic battles. In
addition, a new travel system including boats and the ability for players to
teleport directly to a friendly keep has been added. The expansion also revamps
the game's Realm Ability system to further balance characters
Additionally, "New Frontiers" features a set of features that make
it easier for players to gain experience in the game. One new feature allows
players to be temporarily boosted in effectiveness when grouping with a
higher-level friend, allowing them to experience high-level content. Another
change grants substantially more experience for RvR participation, making it
possible for a player to now choose to gain experience fighting monsters, or by
defending their Realm in RvR. Mythic has added battlefield areas - previously
only available for players level 15-35 - for all players from level 1 through
level 44. These battlegrounds are separated into small level ranges so all
players can engage in RvR without worrying about being killed by far
higher-level enemies.
